Tummy Tuck Recovery: Your Week-by-Week Guide
Share
A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a major procedure with a longer recovery than liposuction. Here's what to expect each week.
Week 1: Rest and Manage Discomfort
You'll be sore and swollen. Stay in bed as much as possible, take prescribed medications, and have someone help you at home.
Week 2: Gentle Movement
Short, slow walks help prevent blood clots and improve circulation. You'll still be wearing your compression garment and abdominal board full time.
Week 3-4: Feeling More Human
Swelling starts to noticeably decrease. Many patients return to desk jobs around week 3 with surgeon approval.
Week 6: Major Milestone
Most surgeons clear patients for light exercise around week 6. Your final results are still developing though — full results can take up to a year.
Keys to a Great Recovery
Wear your compression garment and abdominal board consistently
Attend all follow-up appointments
