How to Choose the Right Compression Garment After Surgery
Share
Compression garments are a critical part of post-surgery recovery, but choosing the wrong one can slow your healing. Here's what to look for.
Size Matters
A garment that's too tight can restrict circulation. Too loose and it won't provide enough compression. Measure yourself carefully using your surgeon's guidelines.
Material
Look for breathable, moisture-wicking fabric — especially important if you're recovering in warmer months.
Closure Type
Hook-and-eye closures allow you to adjust compression as swelling decreases. Zipper closures are easier to put on and take off independently.
Stage of Recovery
Stage 1 garments (first 4 weeks) are firmer. Stage 2 garments are lighter for extended wear.
Pair your compression garment with an abdominal board from Adepa Medical for optimal results.
Consult your surgeon for specific garment recommendations.
